The verification is performed to the new measuring instruments and measuring instruments which have undergone a repair, are in-service or imported to the Republic of Belarus.

The verification of measuring instruments intended for use or used in legal metrology are performed under the contract by the legal entities as part of the state metrological service.

The time intervals between verifications of measuring instruments are specified by the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus. Resolution of Gosstandart "On approval of the of applications in legal metrology" of March 16, 2007 No. 17.

The verification of measuring instruments which are used outside of legal metrology is performed either by above-mentioned legal entities or other legal entities accredited to perform it under the contract.

The time intervals between verifications of measuring instruments used outside of legal metrology are specified by legal entities, individual entrepreneurs or other individual user of the measuring instrument in question.

The verification is directly performed by verification officers. The conformity of metrological performance of measuring instruments with that established during the type-approval procedure and specified in the State register of measuring instruments of the Republic of Belarus as well as conformity with the legal metrological requirements of the Republic of Belarus by affixing a verification mark on the measuring instrument and/or on the operating instructions.

For other legal entities

Instructions on the procedure for applying the verification mark on measuring instruments and its forms, approved by the resolution of Gosstandart of March 7, 2007 No. 14.

The results of verification are certified by a certificate of verification of measuring instruments.

The measuring instruments subjected to verification and found to be non-conforming to the established are recognized as non-complaint. The rejection statement shall be recorded. The use of non-conforming measuring instruments can be renewed after repair or subsequent verification or calibration.

The following types of verification are distinguished:

primary – is carried out after release of measuring instruments and after repair;
periodic - is carried out through verification intervals established taking into account the ensuring of suitability for use between verifications;
unsheduled - is carried out before the expiration of the period of validity of periodic verification when the measuring instrument is put into operation or the necessity of confirmation of the validity of measuring instruments
inspection - is carried out while implementing the State metrological supervision and metrological control for the condition and use of measuring instruments;
expert - is carried out at occurrence of controversial issues of metrological performance, serviceability of measuring instruments and their suitability for use.

The verification is carried out by accredited verification laboratories of Gosstandart’s organizations.

Gosstandart’s organizations also perform verification of measuring instruments, at which the actual metrological performance of measuring instruments are established in certain operating conditions.
